I have received a $200 traffic fine and lost demerits for 'running a yellow traffic light'. The officer told me "dont worry it's not that much". A few years ago, I got a ticket ($400 I believe) for crawling through a stop sign. For such insignificant infringements, you feel robbed.
Go on any social media or forum page talking about traffic police in WA, and Australia, and you soon realise most of the nation feels traffic police officers main role in this country is the legalised theivery of it's people. 99% of the victims are good people, contributing to this country, usually just commuting to and from work, and generally just trying to live in peace.
Yes, the police have quotas to reach. This means they have to give out such petty infringements.
Yes, officers are given benefits for giving out more infringements.
It doesn't matter how many TV shows you make on traffic cops to portray how much of a 'good bloke' they are. Until these petty infringments with big fines stop, traffic cops will always be a scourge on our society.
