Came over to First Ave last night within 10 minutes after calling 000.
Thought we had a faulty aircon after smelling something like burnt plastic, went outside to checkout what was causing the strange smell so looked at the compressor, found no problems so went back inside and the whole house was filling-up with a white thick smoke. Called 000 and sent the address to the fire brigade before anything (thought something between the ceiling and the roof was on fire) then realized there was a specific room where the smoke was thickest.
The culprit was an old toggle switch electric fan that short-circuited, the heat melted the plastic casing and started to burn the grease into oil causing a lot of smoke which took a while to realise.
By the time we called the false alarm to 000, 2 firetrucks were already pulling up the driveway.
Just wanted to say a big "Thank You" to the firefighters, promised to buy a few smoke detectors at Bunnings Claremont tomorrow (which I will) and give a thumbs up for coming around so quickly.
